Case Study: Municipalities Management of Chemicals

Written by: Lisa Hallsworth

Published on: 16 October 2018

Municipalities use hundreds of chemicals in their day to day operations for cleaning, maintenance, water treatment, waste water treatment, swimming pools, arenas, etc. Managing employee occupational health and safety and the regulatory requirements for these chemicals can be challenging at best.

SDS RiskAssist™ works with the municipalities’ WHMIS documents.  It reads the safety data sheets, compares the information to local regulations and summarizes the documents and hazards in ways that guides users to quickly identify workplace risks. Once a hazard has been identified, people are generally good at assessing and mitigating the risks through elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls or personal protective equipment.
