The Coronavirus – Need Help to Ensure You Are Using Effective Disinfectants?
The coronavirus has left many businesses reeling while other organizations are expending heroic effort in disinfect surfaces to prevent its spread. The disinfecting efforts present two challenges: ensuring the correct use of disinfectants that meet established criteria for use against the coronavirus and protecting workers both from the virus and the excessive exposure to these disinfectants, which can be hazardous.
While the situation continues to rapidly evolve, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified disinfectants in their List N, that meet the criteria for use against the coronavirus. Note that per guidance from the EPA FAQs, all products in List N are thought to be effective, even if they do not specifically list the “human coronavirus”.
On March 26th, Health Canada released it’s own list of hard-surface disinfectants that meet their requirements for emerging viral pathogens. “These authorized disinfectants may be used against SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.” We know that many have been challenged with finding proper disinfectants and we hope this makes the process easier.
Actually figuring out which commercially available products match this list, was more challenging than it should have been so Rillea Technologies has posted a blog that cross-references products between the US EPA List N with their equivalent Health Canada DIN-registered versions, along with links to safe-handling instructions and the safety data sheets. Please click the link to our blog to see the list to date.
If you are unsure that the product you are using is effective to kill the coronavirus, please feel free to reach out. We will do our best to help you confirm the information.
Looking to Capitalize on Your Time By Implement a Chemical Risk Reduction Management System?
If your organization is non-essential but lucky enough to still have paid employees through the crisis, this may be a great time to review your chemicals in SDS RiskAssist™, prioritized by hazard. Some of our clients have eliminated 1/3 of their chemicals and used auto-tagging to assign safe-handling instructions to those remaining, with a click of the mouse! This has resulted in the elimination of worker/environmental risks, lower procurement and PPE costs and easier chemical-specific training. Getting this done during the slow period will pay dividends when your organization is ready to startup again.
If you are not yet a client but have an electronic collection of SDSs, on-boarding can be completed quickly, remotely and with no on-boarding cost. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
To assist with the chemical risk reduction process, Rillea has created a Chemical Risk Reduction Infographic that details 10 steps to transform your chemical collection from one that is unmanaged to one with a sustainable and transparent internal responsibility system. Feel free to print this free infographic for your organization.
